Hello! Welcome to Edward Jerabek's page. I teach math and science in the sixth grade wing in Room 103. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, my wife and I live in Gig Harbor just minutes across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in a cedar, lodge-style house that we built in 2004. My lovely wife Andrea was the general contractor. In my spare time, I enjoy playing piano, hiking/backpacking, downhill skiing, sightseeing, following Chicago sports (I'm a rare White Sox fan--hate the Cubs!) and University of Illinois sports (my alma mater), posting on the Chicago Sun-Times Full Court Press blog as the recognized hockey expert, my never-ending learning of the German language (my wife speaks it fluently), and home improvement. I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge for most subjects, especially history. If I'm not watching my sports teams or Tiger Woods, I'm probably watching the History Channel, Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, Bear Grylls surviving the wilds, etc. If I'm reading, it's likely non-fiction or a classic that has reality overtones like Ulysses by James Joyce or Dickensian novels. Teaching is a calling for me. My enthusiasm for knowledge and intellectual pursuits very often rubs off on my students. I enjoy trying to simplify the complex. Additionally, I love to watch my students discover that "the sky is the limit" for most while, at the same time, understanding the power of balance and the Golden Rule as it applies to becoming a complete person. It may come as a surprise to many, but I love to laugh and have a good time with my students. I'll even get goofy at times. This always sets the stage for the hard work and high expectations that follow. |
